I gave her a few choices, and she liked this one. I’ve seen it floating around a few different places, and I thought I’d do my own version. First of all, I went searching for heart marshmallows, which for some reason I couldn’t find. I found them online but it was almost $16 just in shipping, and I wasn’t willing to pay that. I decided to make my own heart marshmallows out of some jumbo marshmallows I had purchased a while ago figuring I’d find something to do with them. Indeed I did. The only disadvantages of this method are that it takes a little bit more time, and the marshmallows are fairly sticky to work with while cutting and shaping. We had to wash the knife, cookie cutter and our fingers a number of times. Despite sticky fingers, I was pleased with the outcome.
To make the heart marshmallows, I used “Jumbo Mallows” I found at the store a while a go. I knew they would come in handy at some time. I used a serrated knife to slice through them. I found it cut better when I just pushed through it rather than sawing back and forth. I wanted the ends sticky to adhere to the colored sugar we made, so I first removed the ends. I was able to get three slices out of one jumbo marshmallow.
The next step is to use a small heart cookie cutter to turn the marshmallow into the heart shape. We stretched out the marshmallow just a tiny bit for it to fit into the heart perfectly.
The next step was to dip the marshmallows in colored sugar. Making colored sugar is really easy. You put some sugar in a glass jar and add a couple drops of food coloring. Put on the lid and shake it up. If you like the color, you are done. If you want it darker, just add some more until you are content.
Assembly of Your S’More Valentine Bag
Beyond the marshmallows and printables, you will need some Ziploc snack bags, small Hershey bars and graham crackers (broken into squares). It is time for assembly. We worked on them a couple different days, thus the outfit changes going on here…not that it takes more than one day to have multiple outfit changes around here.
Add 2 graham crackers, a heart marshmallow and a Hershey bar to each bag, keeping them in one corner.
The Ziploc bag will be folded behind. Then, you will fold over your colorful paper, stapling the paper in place in two spots across the top.
You will add one of the tags that says either “You Make my Heart Melt” or “The World Needs S’More Love” to the front of the package with some double stick tape or a glue stick. You will attach the directions to the back. These will also work to cover up your staples.
You’re done. Enjoy. I made sure to pack these gently and surrounded by tissue paper because the graham crackers do get crumbly, and I don’t want the bag full of crumbs by the time they reach the kids’ hands. Happy Valentine’s Day, Everyone.
These are adorable and your detailed instructions are great.

I found pink and white large heart marshmallows at our local Walmart for about $1.50 a bag.

Thanks for the printables! I found Peeps brand heart shaped marshmallows at the store here in town which will make this project even easier. They were available with red sugar or white and pink speckled sugar. I think they’ll turn out pretty cute!
Yay! So glad this went to good use. I think the year after I originally wrote the post I saw the heart marshmallows available. I’m so glad they are making them now. It makes life so much easier. They may have been making them before, and I was just unaware. I hope you had a great Valentine’s Day!
