These taco burgers have been in my imagination for a while, and I finally decided to try and make it. They taste amazing. A while back, Red Robin had a children’s contest to see if a kid could come up with their next menu item. I’m not a child, so I couldn’t enter. However, my first idea was a taco burger. Now, I’ve never had a taco burger. In fact, I’ve never seen a taco burger on a menu or anywhere else for that matter. I had the vision. I did it. I made my first ever taco burger. Since creating mine, I have browsed the web, and it has been created before with different elements. I couldn’t imagine I had a completely original idea. It’s original to us, however, and we are absolutely psyched about it now. It was grub. My husband, whose favorite food is tacos, is absolutely delighted that I came up with it. First bite – “This seriously could be on any menu at any restaurant.” I think we nailed it. The next day he was craving the burger for lunch. We made another. * Note: Since this burger first hit the blog, it has been adopted by a local chain. Word got to the owner about the taco burger, and he and his chefs put together 4 different version. My version (with their own guacamole recipe) was the winning combination, so it is now being put on the Happy Hour menu. If it’s successful there, it will go on the full time menu. I’m so excited about that. * Here’s how I did it:
1 lb ground beef
1/4 cup taco seasoning (we like McCormick’s)
1/2 recipe of my guacamole
Shredded Mexican Cheese
1 cup shredded lettuce
Sliced Tomato
Hamburger Buns
Butter (optional)
Mix the ground beef in with the taco seasoning. Grill to your perfection. Here’s a great article on grilling the perfect burger. Top with cheese after flipping. Add the toppings of your choice. I thought about adding sour cream, but we didn’t have any. It would be a yummy addition, but with the creaminess of the guacamole, it really isn’t necessary. I like to put a small amount of butter on the buns to toast them. Time to enjoy.
YUM! What a great combo and fun idea!
This looks so good! I think my family would love it too! Have a wonderful weekend! Angie xo

Jodi, that pic of the burger is fantastic. Thanks for linking in to Food on Friday. Cheers
This looks and sounds delicious. I love all the flavours going on between bread. I saw your entry on Carole’s Chatter.
There are taco burgers. Taco John sells them, but they don’t look anything like that one on here. They are sort of a taco mix (Sloppy Joe) mixture with shredded lettuce and cheese on top. That’s fairly good, but doesn’t even compare to this recipe. This looks absolutely delicious. I really want to try this.
I hadn’t seen a taco burger. I don’t think we have a Taco Johns here. I’ll have to check it out. I really hope you do try it. It’s definitely our favorite burger here. I gave the recipe to one of our local gourmet burger restaurants, and after a trial period on their bar menu, it’s being added to their permanent menu. I’m so excited about that. It’s going to be called “Mama J’s Taco Burger.” 🙂 Let me know how it goes.
Well, this was not what I was expecting. There was a little hole-in-the-wall place in nwla when I first got married called “taco grande” they made all kinds of things and a taco burger was on their menu. it was ground meat fixed for regular tacos and they put it on a burger with lettuce, tomato, onion, taco sauce and grated cheese. now, there is a place where I live now who also makes one very similar to the ones I had in Louisiana so many years ago.
Oh wow! I’m learning they exist. I’d love you to try my version and let me know what you think. I hope it competes. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by here!
