This easy and flavorful flank steak recipe has been a favorite of mine for my entire life. To throw a flank steak in a tasty marinade is going to be one of the most simple dinner solutions you will find.
Put in on the BBQ, and it becomes even more simple with very little clean up.

I love recipes that are simple and that kids can help make. I have found cooking with kids more challenging than baking due to the knives involved. This recipe, however, is similar to baking in that the kids get to dump a bunch of things. Dumping also means it’s fast.
This recipe is one of my favorites. My mom used to cook our favorite meal when we came home from college. This is what I always requested.
I would ask for her easy and flavorful flank steak recipe paired with her amazing mashed potatoes. Throw in some homemade rolls and Caesar salad, and you have a winning dinner.
Easy and Flavorful Flank Steak Recipe
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 Tbsp red wine vinegar
- 1/2 tsp ground ginger
- 3/4 cup olive oil
- 3 Tbsp honey
- 1 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 2 chopped green onions
How to Make this Easy and Flavorful Flank Steak Recipe
- Add all ingredients in a shallow dish, and stir to combine. Add flank steak. Alternatively, put the in a big ZipLock bag, seal it completely and then let the kids shake it to mix the ingredients.
- Let the flanks steak marinade for 8 hours or overnight.
- Preheat grill on high.
- Cook on one side for 5-6 minutes, and then flip and cook for another 4-5.
- Allow meat to rest for 15 minutes.
- Cut and serve. Note: It is important to cut the flank steak against the grain. The result will be a more tender cut. Cutting in this way ensures you are breaking up the muscle fibers, and the meat won’t be as tough to chew.
Preparing a flank steak in a marinade becomes a great freezer meal as well.
Prepare in a ZipLock bag as described. Once it has had a couple hours to marinade in the refrigerator, stick it in the freezer for up to four months.
When ready to use, remove the steak from the freezer and allow it to thaw in the refrigerator. After thawed, cook as described.
