What is Snow Cream?

Our neighbor doesn’t have kids, but he said, “Are you going to make snow cream?” I had never heard of that before.

He went on to explain that as a little boy his mom would make him snow cream. The ingredients were simple – snow, sweetened condensed milk, and vanilla.

The ratios were unknown to him, so it was time for me and my kids to start experimenting.

We mixed different ratios and came up with one we like. I preferred the recipe I’ve offered here. My kids like it a bit sweeter with more sweetened condensed milk.

The great thing about this recipe is that you can always tweak it a bit to your liking. It is very simple to add more snow, more vanilla or more sweetened condensed milk to your taste.

The texture of the ice cream is heavily reliant on the texture of the snow.

The first day we made the ice cream made of snow, it reflected the snow we were experiencing around us. It was fluffy, creamy, and soft in texture.

A couple of days later we made it again because we couldn’t resist. This snow cream had more of an icy texture.

Both were rich, flavorful, and delicious. Each one of my kids enjoyed making and serving snow cream. What a whimsical childhood experience that we now get to enjoy because of our neighbor.
