Black and Gold Party Decorations
This particular black and gold party was for my close friend’s wedding shower. This beautiful woman who is so fun, active, smart, and wonderful waited patiently for God to bring the right guy into her life. At 48, she finally found love. I am so happy for her.
We wanted to celebrate her winter wedding in a special way, so we chose a black and gold cocktail party theme. I want to share the table decor and some of our other activities for a wedding shower. Also included are dessert and decor ideas from around the web
To make this party a reality, I want to share my purchases for the party so that you can easily duplicate any component. After you know the items needed, creating your own table following the pictures provided here should be fairly simple.
First, I must apologize for the picture below. Confession: I am not a type A person. I have learned to give more attention to detail. That said, we were in a super big hurry trying to get the party ready, and obviously all of my type-A friends will cringe at the picture below.
Note: The following list contains Amazon affiliate links. Everything you purchase through these links goes to support the free resources I provide at Meaningful Mama. Thank you for your support.
- Black Table Cloths
- Gold Table Runner – I love these fine mesh table runners. At only $11.99 for two 9ft rolls, they were perfect.
- Black and Gold Plastic Plates – I had picked out some on Amazon, but they didn’t arrive on time, so I had to run out and get the ones seen here at Party City. I did link to an attractive option on Amazon if you are interested. It is different than those pictured.
- Gold Plastic Silverware
- Black Paper Napkins
- Gold Napkin Rings
- Glass Candle Holders
- White Stick Candles
- Eucalyptus
- White Roses
- Baby’s Breath
Other Black and Gold Party Decorations
While the extent of our black and gold party decorations was the tablescape, I wanted to provide some other great ideas I found on the web.
Black and Gold Balloon Arch and a How to Make a Balloon Arch Video
Black and Gold Dessert Ideas
Black and Gold Pretzel Sticks – This is from the Facebook page Chace’s Cakes and Catering, which is a fun place to explore cakes, cupcakes, and other dessert ideas.
While I wish I had been inspired by some of these black and gold desserts, I went off-theme and made some of my personal favorite mini desserts.
Mini Peanut Butter Cheesecakes – Could add gold leafing to these.
Key Lime Pie Shooters – These could also be decorated with gold leafing or gold sprinkles.
Opera Cakes – Cut smaller – I made a chocolate topping using bubble wrap and melting candy.
Games and Activities for Black and Gold Wedding Shower
Wedding Shower Scattegories
One game we played at our black and gold wedding shower was Wedding Shower Scattegories. Get your free pdf printable here.
The rules are just like the rules of real Scattegories, found here. Basically, you provide a given letter for one of the lists. Everyone works individually to try and think of a word that fits both the category and has the beginning letter of the letter provided.
For example, if the letter was C, the first list might contain chocolate, Cancun, camping, etc.
At the end of a given amount of time, people have to stop writing. One person can begin to read their answers out loud. Repeat answers must be crossed out, as only unique answers are counted. If there are answers that have a double-word answer and both the words start with the provided letter, it is worth two points. This does not count random adjective letters. In the C example, creamy chocolate cake would not count as 3 points. However, the song Can I Change my mind, by Tyrone Davis, would be worth two points in the “reception song” category.
The person with the most points wins.
Date Idea Wedding Shower Activity
The other activity we did was this date idea activity. Get your free pdf printable for date ideas here.
I found a box that fit this date idea printable (each one cut out individually, so there are 3 per sheet), and I used my Cricut to design a box that said, “It’s Date Night.”
Then, I had each person fill one of these out with their date idea. I had them sign their name.
I told my friend the goal was to do all of these dates. Bonus points if she takes pictures of her on the date and sends them to the friend who suggested it.
Food for Black and Gold Wedding Shower
While I know I said this was a post about black and gold party decorations, you get bonus content with the games, activities, and food suggestions. If you are wondering what we ate, I’ll let you know. I was in charge of the desserts, but my friend made the food. Here is what we had:
- Pasta Salad
- Caprese Bites
- Meatballs – While my friend made a different meatball, I linked to my favorite.
- Veggie Tray with Hummus
- Ham Sliders on Hawaiin Rolls
- Butter Board, which is apparently all the rage. I hadn’t heard about it. Basically, you do a board with a compound butter and cut up some yummy bread to swipe through the butter.
The food was delicous, but I also want to share some of my other favorite appetizers for entertaining.
Whatever the occassion, I hope these black and gold party decorations inspire. Perhaps the food and activity ideas will be another great resource for upcoming showers or parties. Enjoy!
