These easy 2 ingredient elephant ears are a childhood favorite. While we usually think of elephant ears as fair or amusement park food, there is no reason why these favorite treats shouldn’t be brought into the home.
This is a recipe my mom used to make me when I was young. Now I get to pass the deliciousness on to my own children…and now to you and yours.
Another name for elephant ears is fry bread. It is basically a soft, pillowy dough lightly fried in oil.
If you want to know the other goodness my mom has served me over the years, check out her amazing and easy Bisquick berry cobbler.
Easy 2 Ingredient Elephant Ears
When you are looking for an easy, fun and unique dessert to serve family or guests, think of the delicious elephant ear. That buttery tastiness topped with either cinnamon and sugar or the other toppings I’ve listed in the recipe. Don’t you just love it?
What is amazing is that you do not need to go through the hassles of making your own dough when there is a super easy option that still provides the textures and flavors you are used to in an elephant ear or fry bread.
While COVID numbers were not on the rise in our area, I had a small get together with some friends for my husband’s birthday. He requested these elephant ears for dessert.
Our friends loved not only the dessert itself but the concept.
“Are these on your blog?”
“Nope.”
“They should be.”
So, here I am getting them up on my blog for the world to enjoy. If you do partake in these within your homes, will you do me a solid and leave a rating and review. It helps the recipe get seen by more people. Thanks.

- Salted Caramel Sauce
- Buttercream Frosting
- Lemon Juice and Powdered Sugar (how I like my Dutch Babies)

How to Make Easy 2 Ingredient Elephant Ears
- In a 9″ x 13″ pan defrost Rhode’s frozen dinner rolls according to package directions. For the regular method, which takes 3-5 hours, spray your pan with cooking spray. Then, cover with plastic wrap, sprayed on the inside with cooking spray to prevent sticking. Let rise 3-5 hours or until doubled in size.
- Heat one inch oil in large cooking pan to 365-375 degrees.
- Once oil is heated, stretch out dough to roughly a 6-7 inch circle.
- Lay dough into heated oil. I could fit 3 elephant ears in my 11″ pan.
- While dough is cooking, press lightly with tongs to cover completely in oil. Once edges start to look golden, flip the elephant ear.
- Cook until golden brown on each side. Place on a paper towel to drain.
- Brush melted butter onto the elephant ear and add your favorite toppings. Serve immediately.
I said it was easy. Was I right? Other than a little bit of frying, this is a cinch and cooks up quickly. Within a few minutes you will have a tasty elephant ear dessert that everyone can enjoy.
Don’t forget to strain and keep the frying oil in a mason jar for future use.
During these COVID times, we have to get creative with how we do life. Bringing a taste of the amusement park into your own home might be just what your family needed since Disneyland is closed.
