Vintage Shabby Chic Baby Shower
What is better to celebrate than new life and a new family? Families are formed in different ways, and I believe adoption is one of the most beautiful. This vintage baby shower was a celebration of a little girl from Ethiopia finding her forever family.
When planning a baby shower, I love to pick a theme that fits an individual and then make handmade elements that communicate the level of excitement I have for the celebration.
Choosing vintage papers and colors of pink, green, peach, white, and tan, we were able to bring a cohesive shower that fit the shappy chic trend.
How to Decorate for a Shabby Chic Baby Shower

When decorating for a vintage-themed baby shower, the first thing to do is to borrow and collect. Finding cut glass, vintage frames, china, and unique components to fit the theme is important. Our white hobnob vases on the mantel and little vintage white chair on the dessert table were fun and unique elements to bring out the theme.
After gathering, the next thing to consider is the homemade components. Much of what you decide to do depends on what you have time to create, the number of helpers involved (hint: I got my kids involved in the crafting components), and your own personal interest in crafting. Recognizing that some people don’t find their gifting in making things from scratch, I will try and find store-bought options for each component.
Note: This post was originally created in 2012 but has been updated for better formatting. Because of that, finding exact papers and materials will not be possible, but this post can still be used as inspiration for general design components.

Homemade Decorations for a Vintage Baby Shower
Note: The following contains Amazon affiliate links for your convenience. Anything you purchase through these links goes to support the free resources I provide here at Meaningful Mama. Thank you for your support.
The first step if you want these homemade elements, is to find some fun stock paper. I found a few different options for you to consider: Option 1, Option 2, and Option 3. If looking on your own, you want to find 12×12 scrapbook paper. Once your paper is found, you can begin working on a number of the DIY components for this baby shower.
As mentioned, some people don’t love to do DIY at all. If that’s you, don’t worry. I got you. I tried to link to some similar products on Amazon so you could recreate this look using store-bought items.

- Homemade Paper and Felt Flowers – I’ve provided a tutorial for how to make the easy homemade paper flowers and homemade felt flowers. If you have kids, I encourage you to have them help. It may take a bit longer, but trust me, it pays off. They eventually become great help as you host because you’ve taught them along the way. These flowers were party of the entry/drink table, food table, and used as decorations on the table where people sat. Purchase option: Not interested in making your own? Simply buy real flowers or consider faux flowers like this.
- DIY Pinwheels – Here is a post that teaches how to make pinwheels. Here is another pinwheel with a different edge. Both tutorials show how easy and inexpensive it is to decorate with pinwheels. We added these to the front door, over the welcome table, in an empty frame over the mantel, and mixed among the food table. Purchase option: Not interested in making your own? Here are a few options: Option 1, Option 2, and Option 3. I discovered Amazon calls these paper fans.
- Water Bottle Labels – Making custom water bottles is a sweet touch that demonstrates the extra care you took in the details of the celebration. All you need are printable water bottle stickers.
- Thank You Gift for Guests – We added in a small thank you gift for guests (pictured in the upper right quadrant of the photo above). We simply took lollipops and added a thank you printed on a circle on the front. The most time-consuming part of the design was sticking the lollipops in a foam ball covered in mini-flowers. These flowers were hot-glued onto toothpicks and stuck in. Purchase option: Not interested in making your own? Here’s an option: Baby Shower Gift of Hand Lotion.
- Flag Garland and Mantel Garland – Our flag bunting for the front of the dessert table was homemade. You just need your vintage paper and a flag bunting template like this, as well as some twine. The congratulations bunting was store-bought, but I couldn’t find a similar one. Purchase option: Not interested in making your own? Here are a few options: Option 1, Option 2, and Option 3.
